Hearing Aid Fitting in Charlotte & Across The Regional Area
Book An AppointmentWhat to Expect at Your Hearing Aid Fitting
At Bowles Hearing Care Services (serving Charlotte, Hickory, Mooresville, and Huntersville), your hearing aid fitting begins after a comprehensive hearing test. We use the results to understand exactly which sounds you have trouble hearing, how loud they need to be, and how to protect your ears from sounds that are too loud.

Here’s a step-by-step look at the fitting process:
Being open and honest matters: if anything feels off — whether it’s comfort, sound, or usability — tell us. We’ll make adjustments until your hearing aids truly feel like yours.
- It typically takes 45 minutes to 2 hours — that gives us time to get everything just right.
- We’ll adjust and personalize the fit of your hearing aid: shaping the earpiece, fitting tubing, or custom molds so it feels comfortable and secure.
- We program your hearing aid based on your hearing test results, boosting the frequencies you struggle with and moderating any sounds that could be uncomfortable.
- We’ll test how the device performs — you’ll try it in different listening situations so we can fine-tune the settings.
- We’ll walk you through care and maintenance: how to insert and remove the hearing aids, replace batteries (if applicable), clean them, and maintain peak performance.
- We’ll also review any special features your model includes — Bluetooth streaming, connectivity options, advanced controls — and make sure you feel confident using them.

What Is a Real Ear Measurement?
A key part of the fitting process is Real Ear Measurement (REM). This test ensures your hearing aid is amplifying sound correctly at your eardrum (not just at the device), tailored to your ear canal and hearing profile.
- We place a small probe (a thin tube with a microphone) in your ear canal.
- We then compare sounds with and without the hearing aids so we can fine-tune amplification.
- This test is recommended by both the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the American Academy of Audiology for precision fitting.
After completing REM, we’ll have you try on your hearing aids and listen to sounds at varying volumes to make sure the amplification is helpful, but not uncomfortable.
